The Funeral Allowance is a one-time cash payment to compensate the applicant for the funeral expenses of any member of his household or anyone else, including the unborn , as long as resident in national territory.
- Recipients
Citizens who prove the payment of funeral expenses.
- Attribution Conditions
People, resident in Portugal or in a similar situation, who prove that they have paid funeral expenses.
It is also required that the deceased citizen who has been resident in national territory, and not covered by mandatory social protection regime with the right to the death grant or, if he / she has been framed by the mandatory regime with the right to this subsidy, the amount of this is less than 50% of the minimum amount established for the death benefit of the general Social Security regime.
If the death resulted from an act of a third party for which compensation for funeral expenses is due, the institution or service that has awarded the benefit is entitled to be reimbursed for the respective amount.
Reimbursement of Funeral Expenses

The Reimbursement of Funeral Expenses is a one-time benefit to anyone who proves to have paid funeral expenses, when these are not borne by the holders of the right to the death grant.
- Attribution Conditions
The deceased beneficiary has had at least one month of Social Security contributions.
There are no relatives of the deceased who are entitled to death grants.
The applicant presents the original of the funeral expenses.
